77-pound Daschund now into diet

Obie, the 77-pound dog

An extremely obese daschund was brought to the care of a veterinarian for a program to make it lose weight.

Obie, a five-year-old daschund that weighs 77 pounds was loved by his previous owners the wrong way.

Dog lover and a veterinarian for 8 years,  Nora Vanatta found out about Obie when a relative of the previous owner asked her for help.  ”Ageing owners with failing health were simply loving him with food,” Ms. Vanatta said. “They just couldn’t say no to those big brown eyes.”

At  the time she saw Obie, she just knew what to do. ”He is extremely sweet and loving and is a joy to work with,” she noted.

Obie was put on a special diet to make him lose more than half of his body weight. Vanatta used to feed him paunchy pooch, a low-fat and high-protein diet that contains isoflavones. She is also planning to put Obie on a treadmill and do hydrotherapy to lose more weight.  Once he dropped more pounds, he may needed surgery to remove the excess skin.

Ms. Vanatta created a Facebook Fanpage she called  Biggest Loser, Doxie Edition to keep track of his improvement. In this Fanpage, she updates everyone about the milestone of Obie and the latest update of his weight loss was 22 hours ago (as of posting time) revealing that Obie has already lost 7 pounds in 4 weeks.

People supported Vanatta and Obie to this journey as the likes of the Fanpage blew to 50,921. Some even gave financial help for the program of Obie.
